Saving Kukkia from microplastics - an ecological heritage boat for Lake Kukkia
Vendia Woods was born out of love for the traditional Käenniemi boat. We produce a small number of Käenniemi rowing boats every year. The Vendia rowing boat is durable in use, easy to maintain and store over the winter.
“Käenniemi” Rowing boat
The “Käenniemi boat” is a traditional rowing boat that has been made by the Käenniemi family around Lake “Kukkia” for over 100 years. The boat model was developed for Kukkia's rugged ridges and shallow water bays. It floats well in shallow waters but is still a stable fishing boat.
Venda's aim is to preserve the “Käenniemi” boat-building skills for future generations. Vendia has set up a boatbuilder network, where the previous generation of Käenniemi boat builders trains hobbyists and carpenters to become boat builders. Canoe building Course - Finnia Canoe Summer 2025
Two wooden canoe building courses will be held at Ämmätsä Manor in Pälkäne in summer 2025. The course is ten weekdays long, and during the intermediate weekend you can go hiking in the Laipanmaa wilderness or canoeing on Lake Kukkia. The best way to make a canoe is with a partner, so bring a suitable companion.
